15 September 2010 – 17 September 2010 Odense, Denmark
The Ambient Assisted Living Forum (AAL Forum 2010) aims to provide a platform for all stakeholders – investors, researchers, policy makers, industry providers and end-users – to discuss smart solutions for improved quality of life in later years. Ambient Assisted Living Technology is a relatively new and vibrant field of investment, research and development. Policy makers are already exploring options and planning on future technology investments in this area. Several regional and national initiatives are emerging around Europe to support public and private investment. In support of this, the 2010 AAL Forum will now launch and host the first ever European ‘AAL Investment Forum’. The objective of the one-day Investment Forum is to improve communication between investors and researchers and introduce investors to projects which require immediate and/or long term funding. The event will provide a matchmaking bazaar and tailored presentations for investors, software developers and other interested parties.

Concurrent Enterprising – CE

The term Concurrent Enterprising is an amalgam which brings together the paradigms of Concurrent Engineering and Extended/Virtual Enterprising: The Concurrent Enterprise is a distributed, temporary alliance of independent, co-operating manufacturers, customers and suppliers using systematic approaches, methods and advanced technologies for increasing efficiency in the design and manufacturing of products and services by means of concurrency, parallelism, integration, standardisation, team work and more for achieving common goals on global markets.

Collaborative Environments for Sustainable Innovation

Nowadays, the information society is becoming a reality with low cost broadband networks, extended by mobile or wireless networks, allowing seamless connection and use of applications and services (i2010: Annual Information Society Report 2007).
With the arrival of new services, an emerging challenge of collaborative innovation between new types of individual and organizational users who are using more and more ICT services and products. The rise of user-created content is opening further perspectives for a more creative and innovative Information Society, in the same way that users exploited open source software and standardization to develop new collaborative processes.

This move is supported by emerging technological trends such as the migration towards very high-speed networks, ubiquitous wireless technologies, web 2.0, the Internet of Things, Grids, web-based services, integration of web services in mash-up user interfaces, user-created content and social networking. These trends will affect the business and working environment, providing new industrial opportunities and new solutions for eBusiness and employment, in a single information space.

For a new wave of innovation, grand challenges highlight new user collaborations, new organisational forms, cross-domain dimensions of interoperability, interoperability technologies being accessible to all organizations and users and the need to take into account the concerns of many small developers and users scattered across Europe and the world.

ICE 2010 will bring together leading researchers and practitioners from around the world to present their latest findings from research and share practical cases from industry. Authors, workshop and tutorial organizers and participants in general, are invited to contribute to the shaping of the debate, in the scope of a new wave of innovation in collaborative networks and a single information space.

Innovation is our Tradition

Since the early 1990s the European Society for CE has been actively involved in bringing together leading academics, researchers and practitioners in a common forum so as to stimulate the exchange of ideas, views and latest research and developments in the field of Concurrent Engineering and Extended Enterprising. For many years, ICE has become a proactive knowledge community (www.ESoCE.net) and a lively and engaging meeting place for thought leaders in the domain of Concurrent Enterprising.

Since inception this event has evolved and grown in terms of size, nature, number of papers presented quality of papers and presentations, quality of proceedings and countries represented. Compared to other events in the domain, ICE is unique for its good balance between industrial and academic participation and the multi-national character of the event.

The fifth wave of ENoLL, Future Internet and social networks in a true emergency test

On April 13, 2010 European Network of Living Labs (ENoLL) organized a LivingLab BarCamp in Valencia to warm up the new and older livinlabbers. The stage was open for all spontaneous speeches and presentations, and the Camp gave a sneak preview for the contents behind the news given out the next day. In addition we had a great oportunity to visit to CIRMI Living Lab in Valencia and see personally how well developed LL is organized.

Next day 2010 European Network of Living Labs announced its fourth wave results. The call for new members had been announced in January and 117 applications were received. The evaluation process, as carried out in previous waves, resulted in 83 accepted new members to the global network of living labs, one of which was Sound of Media Living Lab. During the welcoming ceremony Thomas Turner, owner of Living Lab officialy received membership. During the ceremony we had a chance to know and familiarize with all representatives of newly accepted Living Labs.

.

During next two days presentations were held covering existing Living Labs activity, Future Internet (FI) Public-Private Partnerships (PPP) and last call for proposals for Competitiveness and Innovation Programme (CIP). During these two days attendance was great from both speakers and attendants. Presentations from  Sessions were ranging from presentations for complete auditorium to Q&A sessions that were split based on interest of the participants. Main topic of all presentations was “From economical recovery to sustainability” focusing on European Economic Recovery Plan to foster and sustain economic growth. Highlight presenters Roberto Santoro and Álvaro Oliveira gave insight on what Living Labs are all about and how new members like Sound of Media can be successful in realizing inovation through live pilots in city environment.

Imporant topics was Future Internet (FI) Public-Private Partnerships desribing how small organizations can join up together to establish consortiums necessary to apply for latest call for papers through CIP programme that ends on 1st July 2010. Tools like Ideal-IST partner search were used to find partners with similar interests. Imporant topics such as structure and rules of European Union funding for these projects were also covered. During ending Q&A session representatives from running EU projects Fireball and Apollon answered some tough questions and gave clear insight on how to create sucessfull EU CIP projects proposal, and how to fund it after approval.
